During the soldering process, solid and liquid phases react with each other. This produces smoke, gas and aerosols as air-polluting contaminants. The result is headaches, conjunctival irritation, premature fatigue and damage to the respiratory organs through inhalation.

The extraction of contaminants at the point of origin is stipulated in the Workplace Ordinance §3 Paragraph 1, Annex 3.6 Ventilation as a fundamental requirement for a safe working environment.
